Multi-direction Slicing of Stl Models for Robotic Wire-feed Additive Manufacturing
Robotic wire-feed additive manufacturing technology is possible to directly fabricate metallic overhangs without support structures through multi-direction deposition. To automatically produce complex components with overhangs, an efficient multi-direction slicing algorithm to slice CAD models into a set of proper layers is required. This paper reports the concept and implementation of a new st...
متن کاملImproving solid freeform fabrication by laser-based additive manufacturing
Solid freeform fabrication (SFF) methods for metal part building, such as three-dimensional laser cladding, are generally less stable and less repeatable than other rapid prototyping methods. A large number of parameters govern the three-dimensional laser cladding process. These parameters are sensitive to the environmental variations, and they also in ̄uence each other. This paper introduces th...
متن کاملShrinking of Solid-state Nanopores by Direct Thermal Heating
Solid-state nanopores have emerged as useful single-molecule sensors for DNA and proteins. A novel and simple technique for solid-state nanopore fabrication is reported here. The process involves direct thermal heating of 100 to 300 nm nanopores, made by focused ion beam (FIB) milling in free-standing membranes. Direct heating results in shrinking of the silicon dioxide nanopores. The free-stan...

Cast nickel aluminum bronze (NAB) alloy is widely used for large engineering components in marine applications due to its excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. Casting porosity, as well as coarse microstructure, however, are accompanied by a decrease in mechanical properties of cast NAB components. Although heat treatment, friction stir processing, and fusion welding were im...
متن کاملDirect Silicon–Silicon Bonding by Electromagnetic Induction Heating
A novel heating technique, electromagnetic induction heating (EMIH), uses electromagnetic radiation, ranging in frequency from a few megahertz to tens of gigahertz, to volumetrically heat silicon above 1000 C in only a few seconds. Typical power requirements fall between 900 to 1300 W for silicon wafers 75 to 100 mm in diameter. This technique has successfully produced direct silicon wafer-to-w...
